About
Raised in Sierra Madre, California, she grew up in the background of film sets, the daughter of a Best Boy and a Script Supervisor, watching stories take shape under hot lights, surrounded by cables and duvetyne. That back-end view of Hollywood shaped the tone of her writing: cinematic and surreal, yet unsparingly observant.
In addition to her musical projects, she has written for television shows that aired on HBO and TBS with writer-producer Carson Mell (Silicon Valley, Eastbound & Down, Tarantula). Rooted in Southern California storytelling, Johnstone’s work lingers where reality and dreams overlap, on the hazy edges of Los Angeles, like an old forgotten movie light: glowing, but covered in dust.
